If I don't have the bow you want in stock, I may be able to make it.

You can either order it and pay a deposit, in which case I will make it for you, or just let me know what you want, in which case I might. This is called market research.

Wood

At the moment, it's anything you like, as long as it's ipê.  There is a choice of bamboo or ash for the back.  Other woods are available from time to time.  I avoid woods which don't have FSC certification.  I'm experimenting with extra laminations, but so far I haven't found any improvement.

Weight

It might take me several attempts to get a required weight, so the tighter your specification, the longer it is likely to take.

Length

I can make bows of any length, but they all take the same amount of time and nearly the same amount of wood, so smaller bows are not much cheaper.

Finish

I like an oiled finish because you can feel the wood.  If you prefer a shiny finish, the two or three coats of low-odour polyurethane floor varnish on top of the oiled finish will do the trick.  I can do it for you at no extra cost, or you can do it yourself if you'd like to see the oiled finish first.

Grip

Almost everyone who has tried my moulded grips likes them.  If you would prefer a plain grip, I can change it (or you can, it's just a matter of rasping and sanding it down).  I don't do covered grips at the moment, but I'm thinking about it.

Nocks

Some people object to using horn nocks, because cows and sheep are killed before their horns are taken off. It is possible to use deer antler – deer shed their antlers every year – though suitable pieces are not easy to find.

If you prefer a traditional string, we can make the nock grooves wider, but we don't make the strings ourselves.

Strings

Some people say you can get better performance by using fastflight string. I've not tried it, but I can fit or supply a fastflight string, at your own risk, if you wish/dare.

Bow bag

I make simple calico bow bags which provide some protection to your bow and have a nice traditional look.  They cost £5, plus 50p p&p if ordered separately.
